There are a lot of tutoring services. What makes Classroom Matters different?
The Classroom Matters Philosophy
Our philosophy is a big part of what makes our program so successful. We work with the whole student, addressing content area, executive functioning, learning differences, motivation, and more. Because there is a strong mentoring component to what we do, we take great care in matching students with the “right” tutor. We work to empower students to enjoy learning (again), to foster ownership and self-advocacy and to integrate proven study habits into their routine.
We recognize that students learn differently–so there is no one-size-fits-all approach. We customize our services to meet the individual needs of each of our students, assessing their strengths and weaknesses and providing relevant support. In addition to tutoring, we confer directly with parents/guardians on a regular basis, contact teachers about the progress of our students, and refer families to other local services that we feel will be helpful to students and parents alike.
We hire only the best tutors! Our staff is highly experienced and passionate about supporting young people. Our tutors have graduated from top universities, are experts in their field(s) and have passed a thorough background check. They also receive ongoing training and support from the CM Directors and other professionals in the field of education. We are a community of life-long learners and we take great pride in our work. CM tutors are constantly going the extra mile to connect with their students and create respectful and productive relationships with them.
Active Learning Environment
The Classroom Matters center provides a nourishing and warm environment where students feel invited to learn. We subscribe to the philosophy that the best learning takes place where the three major aspects of learning are addressed: the emotional (connecting with a tutor), the social (interacting with and observing others who are learning) and the cognitive (problem solving with tutors and one another). Our Supervised Study program is a model of productive and active learning, where students receive content area help and tutors reinforce study habits such as time management, prioritizing and test preparation.
For clients who are unable to come to us, we offer in-home tutoring and will bring our special brand of tutoring to your doorstep! Let us help you create a productive learning environment in your home.
As a former public school teacher with years of experience working with teenagers and parents, the Director of Classroom Matters, Lisa Miller, understands how schools work as well as the process of learning. Whether it’s learning how to advocate for a student in an overwhelming school environment or negotiating about studying and privileges at home, Lisa can lend a sympathetic ear and give practical advice to help families successfully face the challenges of education.
